“Inviting Darkness, Celebrating Light”
with Julia Alexander
Presented by Yoga Center of Carmel
Saturday, January 4, 2020
1:00pm-4:00pm
Early registration $40, at door $45
Appropriate for all levels and modified for your needs.
In this time of year, Nature slows down, goes inward and into the root system. As a yoga practitioner, to be aligned with life, is to do the same, to make friends with silence and dark earth. This intentional approach is called SANKALPA - the ENVISIONING of what we want to manifest in the coming year.
We will address the whole human being, body, mind, heart and spirit. We will string the exercises (familiar asana and new explorations) into a sequence that brings us deeper into the inner world, anchoring ourselves in our own knowing, in our own exploring and growing. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner or just beginning your studies, I look forward to sharing this inspiring experience with you!
Julia Alexander is happy to return to YCC and is honored to be your companion and guide on this journey. She synthesizes her decades of study and teaching of various styles of yoga, her background as a classical pianist, and recent intensive studies of BreathExperience somatic method. “Becoming Bodyful ”
with Julia Alexander
Presented by Yoga Kula
Saturday, March 28, 2020
1:00pm-4:00pm
Cost: $50 before March 21 / $60 after
Appropriate for all levels and modified for your needs.
In my experience, we frequently come to our yoga practice with great deal of expectations. We expect it to be "strong", "fast", "challenging" and "sweaty". And we certainly expect our body to "do" the asanas perfectly or nearly so...In other words, we've turned yoga into yet another self-improvement project, and our inner critic is at work!
When we become mindful of these unhealthy habits of self-criticism and our attachment to ideas, ideals and words, there comes an opportunity to transcend (cross-over) to love and compassion of bodyfulness - inner stability, creativity, authenticity. Our tools in this process are:
- Soft (allowed) breath
- Subtle (not strong) sensations
- Pulsations of energy (Prana, Chi, Ki) within and without
- Relatedness (inner and outer)
Together, we will explore thoughtfully strung sequences of postures and movements, appropriate for the beginning and seasoned yogies and yoginis. This three-hour workshop will offer plenty of opportunity for sharing our experiences and asking burning questions. The fruit - light, love-filled and joyful practice!

“If Your Body Could Speak”
with Julia Alexander
Presented by Yoga Center of Carmel
Saturday, November 17, 2018
1:00pm-4:00pm
Early registration $40, at door $45
Appropriate for all levels and modified for your needs.
If your body could speak, what would it say? Perhaps it would talk about the joy and delight of being well, mobile and energized; or it will speak of challenge and discomfort, change, transition, fear or pain... What are the parts of your being that ask for your full attention and deep compassion?
Julia invites you on the journey into your body's subtle language of easeful breath, sensations and presence in each moment as it is. No matter what circumstances, we can be grateful, graceful, resilient and generous.
Through nourishing restorative postures, thoughtfully sequenced asanas, with continued breath awareness, we will experience movement as "what we are, not what we do".
Whether you have been studying yoga for a while or are just beginning, this workshop is for everybody, the only prerequisite is your curiosity.
Julia has been living and studying Yoga for more than two decades, and has been sharing her knowledge of Yoga since 1997. Her credentials include Masters of Music, RYT 200, and a recent certification from Breath Experience method. For more information
